I don’t consider myself and angry person but… others have and I would certainly consider myself a frustrated person. My life in a far shot, I relate a lot to the Hulk and I love drawing just folks…yelling. Screaming like their jaws would unhinge and I always liked this sketch. The gesture on the body didn’t quite come together and I struggled to make it work beyond this sketch. But in the face….naw, that’s it, I dig it.

It’s fun to show friends these books and see what they really dig. My buddy Joe Peacock really liked this one He-Man piece which was done all the way in 2004. So I asked him to write up a little diddy about why!
It was a joy to flip through the proof of Casey’s latest sketchbook. And while I love all of his work (sincerely and truly), there was one piece that immediately grabbed my attention. It’s a piece of He-Man fighting Trapjaw.
I think what spoke to me most about this piece was how dynamic it is. “Dynamic” is a loaded term, especially in illustration. There’s no concise definition for it. Everyone agrees, however, that it means that a piece conveys action and movement, without being too “busy” visually. And this piece does that. Having He-Man’s clinched fist holding the sword of Greyskull right in the foreground was immediately striking. All of the action lines point toward his foe. You know exactly what is going on in this piece, from Trapjaw holding Teela hostage to He-Man’s determination to save her.
Moreso, Casey’s style is a new take on the He-Man universe. I love the characterization that Casey brings. He-Man doesn’t look like a steroided buffoon with a Prince Valiant haircut, he looks like an actual gladiatorial hero. Trapjaw looks like mechanized evil. Teela looks like an actual woman.
If there were a line of He-Man figures made in Casey’s style, I’d be the first in line to buy every single one.

Big thanks to Joe for stopping by, check out his writings and blog at www.joethepeacock.com

I’ll be at Table: L-03 at Emerald City Comic Con! March 30th - April 1st
Day 4 - Hey, if you’re familar with the Avengers Assemble the Series stuff, in addition to playing the Hulk, I cut the intro to that show. ORIGINALLY the plan was to have me draw all the title cards for each character and do a little drawing to actor transition. It was ditched cause it was too time consuming with too many variables. But before that call was made, I had drawn two of them. (One being Captain America which is still in the intro) and Ms Marvel that was left unused with a Ed McGuiness cover in it’s stead. So enjoy for the first time ever!
Also, check out www.avengersassembletheseries.com if you are unfamiliar and big love and credit to Miracole Burns (www.miracole.com) for being Ms. Marvel.
Check in tomorrow for special guest comments on our preview! (It’s Joe Peacock, Joe Peacock will be talking about his favorite piece)

Day 3 - A lot of folks who I previewed the book have commented on this pic, a concept shot for a job that I can’t talk about the job, but I can show the shot. It was meant to be a farmer witch which why the pitchfork and the earthy growths on it. A concept I’m proud of, I’m very happy that this edition shows so much concept work I haven’t previously showed.
Check in tomorrow for another preview!

Day 2 of the sketchbook preview begins with cover roughs for the Mwahahaha! Card Game I did for White Wolf Publishing. This was a dream project for the editor and a lot of love went into it, so enjoy some of the behind the frame work of the cover!
The cover went through several edits/iterations, if you are curious to see the final, just check out this link!

Ok….ok…um….couple things….

1. In the post “turned our back on Drew Struzan” era of posters, we are reminded of why they do collages instead of trying to composite what is clearly unrelated photoshoots into a narrative enviroment. The only character who looks right, is Hulk and it’s cause they could computer generate him proper. They should have bitched out and done walking towards with an explosion behind them.
2. Fact: Spiderman is bigger than Brad Pitt. They all are. This isn’t a comic book nerd talking, this is the truth of what the Marvel movies have laid down. Captain America is bigger than you. Iron Man is bigger than you. Hulk is bigger than you. Hawkeye is about the same size…but that’s besides the point. We know Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man and we know that Chris Evans is Captain America, put their f’ing masks back on and have them kick Loki in the balls.
This is just a drive by rant judgement.

Kickstarter - Hidden Base Designs

Hidden Base Designs

Tim Fischer is back with a new startup t-shirt company and always I have his back, so YOU KNOW I’M PIMPING THEM TO YOU!

He’s starting out with a lineup of game of thrones nerd goodness, which you can preview at their site: hiddenbasedesigns.com/ and being the loving guy I am, I put some previews together below:

So what’s the pitch? He’s looking to get a little kickstarter startup cash and he’s giving a bonus of a set of his Star Wars Propaganda posters with the donations! I know sweet right! So get over there and show some love, I want some more nerd shirt goodness!
